The boiler and central heating suffered a similar fate because they were intertwined with the side room.
The demolition yielded a lot of original bricks and tiles which were carefully
cleaned and re-used, most of the bricks had at least one clean face that wasn't stained with the
lime mortar.
Even the old rafters were eventually used for the back porch.
The old mortar was not cement based, it only had lime in it which makes it much easier to remove from the
bricks. We simply used an old hand axe and a wire brush to clean up the bricks.
We had to block up two holes in the side of the bedroom that were used for access to the roof void.
The side rooms were not part of the original construction of the house. We've been told that the owner decided that his workers ought to have three bedroom houses and they were added later.
Once the plaster was cleared off what is going to be the wall between the kitchen and the study,
it revealed fair faced brick work that will be left exposed.
