Note that a Hub has the sense of transmit and recieve swapped. Normal cables are wired pin to pin but a transmit receive swap cable can allow two devices to be directly connected without a Hub.

The two standards for wiring RJ45 sockets reflect the swap between transmit andreceive pairs, the other two pairs remaining unchanged.
